Our Lady Of Good Counsel

Catholic Primary School

The Rosary

At Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Primary School, the Rosary is a cherished part of our spiritual life and an important way for us to grow closer to Jesus through the loving guidance of His Blessed Mother, Mary.

During the months of October and May, we gather together in whole-school prayer and liturgy to pray the Rosary, reflecting on the life of Christ through the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous Mysteries. These times of prayer allow our school community to pause, reflect and unite our hearts in faith. In individual classes, pupils also take time to pray the Rosary, helping them to understand the meaning behind each mystery and to find peace in stillness and reflection.

To encourage prayer beyond the classroom, we share our Travelling Rosary, which is taken home by a different child each evening during these months. This special Rosary box contains a set of Rosary beads, prayer cards and reflections to help families pray together at home. It allows the spirit of prayer to flow from our school into the wider community, strengthening the bond between home, school and parish. Through this initiative, children and their families are invited to deepen their faith together and to recognise that prayer can be part of everyday family life.

We also use the Mark 10 Mission resources to support our prayer and reflection in school. These engaging and age-appropriate videos, songs, and meditations help children to understand the Rosary and the Gospel in a way that is both meaningful and relevant to their lives today. Guided by these resources, our pupils learn that prayer is not just words we say, but a way of opening our hearts to God and growing in love for one another.

Our staff also come together every Wednesday morning to pray the Rosary for their own intentions, for our pupils, and for the needs of our school and parish community. Through these shared times of prayer—both in school and beyond—we continue to live out our mission: “As the family of God, with Jesus, we love, learn and enjoy.”

How to Pray The Rosary

Below you will find a special How to Pray the Rosary at Home guide to help families share this beautiful form of prayer together. Praying the Rosary as a family is a simple yet powerful way to spend time in God’s presence and to reflect on the life of Jesus through the eyes of Mary. This guide explains each part of the Rosary step-by-step, making it easy for parents and children to pray together, even if it’s just one decade at a time.

It includes the prayers, the Mysteries to reflect on and some gentle prompts for discussion or quiet reflection. By praying the Rosary at home, families can strengthen their faith, find moments of peace in busy days and bring the love and light of Christ more deeply into their daily lives.

We encourage every family to take time to pray together and to experience the comfort and joy that comes from this special devotion.

Here, Greg invites you to pray with him. This video offers help and support in preparing to pray with children.

Rosary Hymns

If you are praying at home, here is a version of our popular the Our Father that we sing regularly in school. It would be wonderful if you could pray and sing together at home too.
