School Council

What is a school council?

A school council is group of students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve their school.

What does a school council do?

A school council does a number of things:

  • The school council meets - either with a teacher present or as a group - to discuss and sort out problems. They also bring ideas and suggestions to meetings on things that pupils would like in order to improve the school.
  • Members of the school council will be responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed, such as social events, writing newspaper articles, or choosing new playground equipment.

Who is on the council?

Each year, every class will normally elect two representatives to be members of the school council. In Year 6 four representatives are chosen to take on the responsibilities of treasurer, secretary, chair and vice chair.
